How We Got Here…
The history of our company begins in 1982 in Bloomington Indiana, near the beautiful campus of Indiana University where our company founders were students.
Two young men, working in a local pizza chain, decided they could do it better. "Always colorful, usually profitable" might be an apt moniker for a company
that has become something of a legend in its hometown. We have grown steadily over the years and now operate 5 Pizza Express delivery stores as well as
the hugely popular restaurant Lennie's, also home to the Bloomington Brewing Company, the area's acclaimed micro-brewery.
How we came to be Pizza Mambo in south Florida is the next phase of the story. We had been searching for several years to find a suitable market to grow the
One World Enterprises family of restaurants. "I fell in love with the sun-drenched beaches, the sound of the breeze in the palms and the fun- loving cross-cultural
blend of people," claimed company founder Jeff Mease.
After discovering an out-of-business pizza shop in West Palm Beach in the fall of 1999, we moved in, renovated it, and the first Pizza Mambo (Mambo#1 as it's known to insiders)
became a reality. We (very easily) talked one of our managers from Bloomington into settling intow WPB to help get Pizza Mambo up and running and to find a suitable management
team and staff for the store.
Enter John Poghosyan, dedicated worker, quick learner and all around great guy. John joined the Pizza Mambo staff in 2001 and quickly climbed through the ranks to a management
position. John's motivation awed us, and we eagerly put John in an Independent Owner-Operator position. John officially owned Mambo #1!
It didn't take Mr. Motivation long to open a second Pizza Mambo, also in WPB. In fact, John's friends were so enamored by Pizza Mambo's progress that one of them opened a Pizza Mambo in
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. You'd think three stores would satisfy John, yet he's preparing to open a fourth location in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Something tells us that John's not finished yet. We'll keep you updated on John's progress as he continues on his quest to fill the bellies of the south with the best pizza around!
What We Care About…
In today's world, it's easy to find people passionate about making a fast buck. What's harder to find are businesses passionate about the way they do business.
We strongly believe in the value of the independent restaurant. Being independent gives us the freedom to run our business the right way.
For us, that means a focus on quality and service. We're passionate about the quality and freshness of our ingredients. It's why we still make our dough by hand with just the basic ingredients. Our sauce is prepared from fresh-packed tomatoes canned at their peak, not reconstituted tomato paste. And of course our cheese is 100% Wisconsin whole-milk mozzarella-the best we can buy.
You can count on us for quality and freshness. Nothing is more important.
We're also committed to providing an outstanding workplace environment for our staff. Winners of the Small Business of the Year Award from the Greater Bloomington Area Chamber of Commerce in 1999, we strive to create an environment that is safe and empowering for our staff, as well as offering opportunities for entrepreneurial careers. We intend to grow the wealth of our company by creating ownership opportunities for our people.
We also take great pride in being an active supporter of the community around us. We are strong advocates of and participants in the Community Based Recycling Program. Our drivers will even pick up your spent batteries and we'll direct them for proper disposal (not in the landfill!)
We also offer free field trips for school-kids that we call "Pizza College". During the 90 minute program we teach kids all about how pizza is made and slip in some good hand washing and recycling habits. We cap it all off with a free pizza lunch that the kids make themselves! Let us know if you'd like us to put together a Pizza College program for your group.
